The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to reopen schools in Abuja. The students' union cited the prolonged closure of schools as a major disruption to their academic calendars and a significant setback to their education the closure was due to the a dispute between the FCT and local govt which is over two months .
NANS emphasized that the continued closure of schools has caused immense hardship and uncertainty among students, and it is imperative that the Minister takes immediate action to resolve the issue. The students' union warned that if the schools are not reopened within the specified timeframe, they would be forced to take further action.
The ultimatum comes amid growing concerns over the prolonged closure of schools in Abuja, with students and parents calling for a swift resolution to the issue. NANS has urged the Minister to prioritize the education and well-being of students in the FCT and take necessary steps to reopen schools without further delay.
